Any experience of emulating great legacy VGA?

I would like a device that can take an old computer and make it look great on a big screen.

It needs to seamlessly simulate how VGA works so it allows all the hacks that would be possible on a CRT such as mixed resolution.

I am aware of https://www.retrotink.com/product-page/retrotink-4k, and it might do the trick, but even if it does it seems a bit pricey.

Other devices seems to have issues with switching resolution often and quickly and similar.

Let me share a secret I've been keeping for a couple of months now. 😁

See this old thing? It's old corporate AV gear from about a decade ago. The sort of thing that is getting pulled out of board rooms and tossed out currently.

The secret ... the VGA input will sync at 15kHz. You can slam (for example) an Amiga 500 RGB output directly into one, along with the audio, and get pretty good HDMI out the other end. There are quite a few on eBay in the USA right now for not a lot of money.

Might be worth a look for some people!
